Of Indemnity

What the hell is that debacle all about? Insurance....Every person, scrambling like a rat to get his hands on a policy. Of course, the money is definitely on the much too mercenary insurance firm that has its salesperson grappling with a million others to sell his company’s policy to the unsuspecting but greedy rats. If you would ask a “wise” senior, he would say, insurance equals security. But think about this, you have an accident, your car is ruined, you don’t actually have the money to get it repaired, but technically, you should be relaxed because you’ve been paying your insurance premium regularly, being the greedy rat that you are, you don’t mind small dues until you get your reward. But here is the catch, in India atleast; you don’t get your insurance money unless you show them an itemization. And I think, duh! If I had that kinda money would i really need to claim insurance, keeping aside the greedy rat issue i.e. So there I am, my car wrecked, having to pay for the colossal but obligatory repairs and I am thinking “What the hell am i doing commissioning repairs, i don’t have that kinda money” Of course it’s too late at the moment. So now i have to go begging for small mercies.

So here I am, with 0 dignity, after the begging for small mercies stint, or the interest rate on my loan is so high, that I have paid almost the same amount as interest. Of course, i am thinking. Am still better off right? Some money is better than no money at all right? But what i have forgotten to take into account is the never-ending investigation, unethical but supposedly unavoidable bribery and the endless hassles that by the time the dough actually gets to my hands, i am wondering,’ Was it worth the trouble?’

  1. Nithya,
Let me first start by trying to understand ur view clearly …!!
Now u tell me, Do u mean the insurance thing is a mere non-lucrative crap or u say the path thro which an insurance is being claimed should be cleansed..??? Just couldn’t apprehend ur view clearly….
I ll be most happy 2 kick start some argument abt this..,(Of course only if u r interested, else u can delete dis comment right away)
    Thanks..,

  2. I guess i myself am not very sure abt it... because , as i have mentioned, the path for an individual to make the claim and recieve the claim is obviously crappy. But also understanding the human mentality, that is how it will be... so what i am thinking about is, for this insurance thing to be more helpful to the buyers whilst working around the human mentality.

  3. “I guess i myself am not very sure abt it...” For sure one cannot start an argument after dis :)..,

Anyways, Just to put my two cents, U take any such thing related to govt the process of claiming indemnity wil be pretty slow…,When one claim is moving hundreds of new enrollments, payments and renewal are on the roll.. so dis reduces the width of the so called channel we r talking abt.,Earmarking a separate staff for dis(claim alone) wouldn’t be cost effective becoz dis is after all a business thing and meant for profit (Atleast a minimal percentage)…,
As far as an insurance is concerned u cannot claim an insurance just like tat !! They hav certain clauses n exemptions in their books..,So they ll cross check for some of those viz.,
Mechanical breakdown, Deliberate accidental loss, Intoxicated driving etc etc ( I rembr only dis much) for which they aren’t supposed to compensate!! So this as u can understand isn’t a simple process …One momentous advantage of our insurance system is tat it mandates third-party insurance liability!! It goes in a separate paper …My bottom-line: insurance companies are no different from other business-oriented govt bodies with the diffrnce just being in the margin of profit..(:)A govt is meant to serve ppl isnt it ???),,So do not expect much from them as u are supposed to be at their mercy til u r indemnified…
u may know all these things, don’t take it in a wrong sense (Like me teaching u r anything..pl).,just thought of discussing something tat I know…Anyways its nice 2 get a reply frm u.., Keep posting some interesting things so as to incite some argument and kill time effectively…,Thanks.....

  4. Honestly speaking vardarajan, i do know the process of insurance claiming and my issue is with that, why have all the clauses and sub clauses when it is our money in the end and second of all, how can a seperate claims dept be not-cost effective when it is obviously cost effective to keep people hangin for months to return their own cash to them, agreed there are times when the claim is more than the sum of the premiums .
All i am saying is that there is a kink in the logic here. i.e the system might be better in some way and though i have not been successful so far i am still looking to straighten out that kink.

  6. Sorry, I dint mean 2 teach u r anything as I uttered earlier.,I wud be realy disappointed if u had felt so.., Was very much impressed at ur concern 4 dis particular thing. And I got ur point, but I would say its not worth making amends to the present system., A claim is basically seen as a post settlement issue be it a medi-claim or an insurance claim., Agreed its not the best, but at least there is something in it to get pacified compared 2 the other govt depts..I’ve seen first hand the way ppl work in govt depts…U should see how much a Regional Transport officer demands just 2 do his duty and the way he treats ppl..,u ll cry 4 sure..Passport office is no different…I ve had the worst of exprnces..Police station, Secratariat …and the list jus goes on.., der r certain things in our present system which needs a terrible attention., I ll tel u those if dis argument goes on., but I m truly concerned abt it, abt the common-man who finds loopholes 2 bye-pass a given law..Im an individual who had been trying 2 create a diffrnce 2 d present system and is yet 2 taste the first drop of succees., So if u r up to create some social difference then here’s a guy u can relate to. I can give u a many interesting topics to plot ur emotions….,
